CONNECT YOUR AI AGENT
MCP settings
Your agent can read the verified mail you allow. You control the connection and each mailbox.
Connection security
Add MailVault to your agent
This is a local stdio server. Your agent launches it on this computer. Choose a command-based MCP connection; the MailVault website address is for browsing mail.
- Name
mailvault- Command
- Arguments
Your agent connects immediately while the archive is verified in the background. Ask it to use get_capture_status for progress, then read mail after verified is true. A large archive can take several minutes to check; keep the connection open.
Agents on another computer or hosted agents need a remote transport. This release provides local stdio connections. Any agent that supports stdio can use the command and arguments above; its configuration format may differ.
Choose mailboxes, then test
- Generate a key if required, enable MCP connections, and save.
- Allow search or reading for a mailbox that has completed capture.
- Add the configuration in your agent, supply the access key if required, then reconnect or restart its MCP connection.
- Ask it to use
get_capture_statusuntilverifiedis true. Then ask: “Use MailVault to list the mailboxes I have allowed.” The tool islist_accounts. Continue with folders, searching, or opening one message.
Seven tools are available: list_accounts, list_folders, search_messages, get_message, list_attachments, get_attachment, and get_capture_status. An empty mailbox list means no published mailbox has been granted access.
Connection troubleshooting and security limits
- Startup refused: check that MCP is enabled, the required key is supplied, and the executable exists.
- Missing mailbox or denied message: check completed capture, mailbox permissions, and allowed folders.
- After changing a key, update your agent’s secret and restart its MCP connection.
- The key controls this MCP connection. It does not encrypt mail or protect against an agent that separately has unrestricted access to these files.
- Granting access lets your agent read the selected content and potentially send it to its model provider.
